astronomy vs. religion

Astronomy

09-23/2013

Is astronomy really different from religion? In astronomy what we do is search into the skies above and into the ground below in order to understand what there is out there and how our planet works. In astronomy we search for heavenly bodies besides ourselves, and for other worlds and planets like our own.

We look forward further and further out into a blank unknown hoping to find a cause and reason for why we exist and who we really are. We search for meaning, understanding, hope, faith, and for where we can go once our lives and homes are destroyed.

In religion we look to the heavens for guidance and we look into the world below to find out how to live outside the realm of suffering. We look into the heavens to heavenly gods, to give us directions to live our lives. In religion there are nearly infinite gods and demons we can worship. We look to them for guidance and when our lives get rough.

We look further and further into our beliefs and faith and travel to others trying to teach our ways. Nobody can say for sure if what we believe is even true. We try to find our place and our origin in this vast world of ours. We look to a new home for us when we pass on. And hope that there is more for us than just what we can know, see, feel, and experience.

what is your opinion?
