fear of death
many consider death to be something to fear. this is illoical as the human condition responds to fear with one of three things: 1. run, 2. freeze, 3. fight. death is similar to love in that it is an astral in existence. it is something that cannot be touched, stopped, walled by a physical obstacle, fought, or run from. fear of death is illogical, yet we all fear it. it is said that all humans are born knowing that they will one day die, but this couldnt be further from the truth. we are not born with an innate sense that we will die, rather we live our lives believing ourselves to be immortal, indestructable, and undying. it is not till a human is directly faced with death themselves that they truly begin to accept the gravity that it holds on us all. i believe that the knowledge of death is a gift from the universe, that we know it exists to teach us how to become better and evolve.
knowledge of death is a gift. to know death is to know life, absolution, and to know what truly matters. riches, posessions, status, career, power, past, present; in death and life these things mean nothing. to know life and death is to know things beyond our control that we cannot prevent. one can take a life as easy as one can stomp an ant. but to try to steal death away is to catch lightning in your bare hands. for it is only in life and death that we see what is truly important.
life and death are partners in an eternal dance whom meet on the dance floor once in a red moon. life and death are two sides of the same coin, with all that we see from the day we are born to the day we die held between. maybe that is why coins have so many scars on their side, to symbolize all that exists and how our lives affect it.
most see death as despiar and suffering, a time of great pain and horror. in reality it is the process leading up to death that brings us the most pain, and the same could be said for life. death brings peace to those who accept it, whether they want to or not. and suffering to those surrounded around it. ironically the opposite is said about life, with those going to give birth suffering long after while those around them are at peace and joy.
death can be prolonged, it can be avoided, it can even be defied, but ultimately all things one day die and are born anew in a different form. death is treated by most as a great terror that chases us endlessly, his hand outstretched. as if he were trying to pierce our hearts with his icy hand. as such death can feel as if a cold daggar has been forced through our hearts. we believe that to touch death is to have it destroy us from the inside out like a plague. thus to have the reaper try to grasp our hands in friendship means for those who touch it to wither and die.
even as a physical being death is thought of as a blight upon all that lives. there are many myths, like if you see a hearse you will be the next one inside. or that if you breathe while passing a graveyard you will have your soul sucked away. when you avoid death you avoid the truth, and as a great man once said, "the truth hurts". death and despair go hand in hand, yet so do creation and destruction, and light and dark. death is more like a family member you never knew about.
if you think about death as a person or physical being, she is more like a room lit with a single bobbing light than a bottomless black pit. death does more than take from us and destroy all that we hold near. she guides us and directs us towards the beginning of a better life. the job of death is not necessarily to kill, to reap, to decapitiate, or to slice and maim. but rather she is here to guide those lost in the trail that we walk through the circle of life. death is sent to be a guide from where the world ends back to where it began. and eventually all that is or will be WILL end. it has happened countless times before and will continue on for eternity and a half.
there was life and creation before creation existed, and there was existence before creation. we are creation, our parents existence, their parents life, and THIER parents life before creation. existence is not suffering, but rather an allowance to a more heightened sense in our place in the world. all paths, though different in direction, morality, and the journey eventually lead back to where they all began. walk a circle enough times and you will begin to learn. pay attention to what passes you by and not just what lies ahead on the path you travel. concetric circles exist even when lines never connect, as te universe exists.
when i see death i feel sorrow for those it affects, but i also believe that feeling sadness for those we have lost can often hold them bound to the ground beneath our heels. i believe that till we let those we see die go they cannot truly pass on. i like to believe that there is a world beyond just what we see. if existence is only life then how do you explain death? if there is nothing after we die then why is ALL life not equal? evolution and science can only explain so much before you hit an impass.
if planets and universes can be reborn from utter destruction then why not the life forces of those who die? if there is nothing after we die then why bother following rules or letting others live? frankly believing that there is no life after death is an act contrary to the existence of evolution and science. why strive to fight and go on or folow order and logic if we have nothing to look forward to? hell, lets go dig up all the graves on earth and use the corpses for cheap meat and the bones for decorations. "ill take a pina skullota with a heartini umbrella please!"
maybe the endless race against death will cause other living things to adapt and change. maybe one day all life will reach the same level that we as humans are at. hopefully by then we will be partners with the reapers working hand in hand. but for now we must learn to accept death and understand it so we can evolve beyond the mortal wick embedded in the candle of life.
